Leadership Teams

Explore how our leadership—through the Consistory, Ministry Councils, and Executive Council—provides spiritual direction, supports our ministries, and helps us live out our mission as a church family. These teams work together to nurture faith, care for our community, and strive to keep us rooted in God’s love and purpose for SRC.

Consistory

The consistory is a group of Elders and Deacons:

Called by God to represent Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Discerns God’s unique purposes for SRC.
Leads, guides, and directs the ministry of SRC to fulfill these discerned purposes.
Consists of SRC members with gifts of leadership, wisdom, and service who are elected to serve a 3-year term.

ELDERS assist the pastors with congregational care, the sacraments, and membership decisions.

DEACONS lead in ministries of mercy, justice, service, and outreach.

Elders and Deacons are not representatives of the people in the congregation. They represent Christ, working together to prayerfully discern Christ’s call for the congregation.

Ministry Councils

Serve under the guidance of the Consistory.
Lead, guide, and carry out the work of a particular ministry area to engage SRC’s unique purposes discerned by the Consistory.
Consist of 5 to 9 people from the current SRC Consistory and congregation.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS oversees the care and maintenance of the church building and property to ensure the physical space reflects SRC’s welcoming, inclusive, and hospitable presence to those who enter and utilize the facility.

CONGREGATIONAL LIFE provides opportunities to build community within the church, feed the church physically and emotionally, and foster relationships through events, meals, and social activities.

EDUCATION/FAITH FORMATION seeks to develop positive faith formation opportunities for SRC’s multigenerational congregation through a variety of programs and activities.

OUTREACH focuses on opening the doors of Second Reformed Church to the Pella community, by hosting events, fostering relationships, and representing this congregation as a place of Christian hospitality and love. Seeks to awaken this open and friendly spirit within the congregation.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee helps guide and support the work of Second’s broader leadership teams. It includes our Ministers of Word and Sacrament, Vice Presidents of the Elders, the Clerk, and the Chair and Vice Chair of the Deacons. This group meets regularly to plan agendas, coordinate ministry efforts, and offer guidance on church-wide matters such as staffing, finances, and strategic direction. They help keep communication flowing and decisions moving forward between larger meetings—all with the goal of supporting our mission and ministry as a church family.
