First, SRC isn’t a club; it’s a community. Everyone is welcome here. Everyone belongs. Whether you walk in the doors for the first time or the 321st time . . . you belong beyond membership status!

The word MEMBERSHIP means different things to different people and can be associated with a variety of images and ideas.

• Subscription memberships allow us to receive a different hot sauce or book every month.

• Gym memberships give us access to equipment and classes if we feel like going.

• Union membership helps us unit to improve job conditions and provides support.

• Membership with AAA comes in handy late at night when the car runs out of gas.

 

We want to be CLEAR about what we mean when we talk about membership at Second because we believe belonging to a faith community is a different kind of membership. We believe that becoming a member of this faith community is simply a commitment to be in relationship with one another.

 

Relationships are not always easy, but the membership covenant is a commitment to be in community together. We promise to rejoice together, grieve together, support one another, disagree with one another, and more. Membership at Second is not a commitment to agree on everything or believe the exact same things. Rather, membership is our commitment to Christ-centered partnership in which each member brings their unique differences into one beloved community that more fully reflects the presence and purposes of God in the world.    

 

In fact, we aren’t even sure that “membership” is the right word, but it is the best word we have right now, and we believe it’s different from membership at a country club or a book-of-the-month club.
