ParentsHello Parents! This is a page just for you! I want you as parents to be informed about when/where we are meeting, and what we are doing/talking about at youth. My job is to get to know your child and help them develop their relationship with God, to make it personal and real. Each one of them is unique and at different places in their faith journey. With your help we can try to meet each of them where they are and help them grow, love them well, and point them towards Jesus. Please encourage your student to come and check it out. There are lots of ways to nudge them in that direction without forcing them. Be available to give them a ride, mention it during the week and on Sunday to help remind them. Friends are always welcome and so are your concerns, opinions, and questions. Let me know if there are specific ways that I can pray for your family or your student. Please call me, stop by my office, or email just to introduce yourself, tell me about your student/family, or offer your thoughts and/or questions. I eat lunch most every day and love to chat over coffee, so call me and we can grab a bite together and chat! If you are an email person, make sure to drop me a line and we can be in communication that way too! andrea@2refpella.org, Cell # 780-7418 Some links so websites that may serve as a helpful parenting tool.
If you want the quick run down of what we have to offer your child, here it is! Our goal in everything we offer is to deepen and strengthen their relationship with God and live out God’s Word in their lives, and hopefully get each of them involved with a Core group. We send out postcards a lot to make you aware of things that are important to attend, as well as a newsletter once a month. It’s always good to cut out the schedule box and post it so you know what’s what! Large Group—Our regular meeting time is set for Sunday nights from 6:30-8:00 PM in the Youth Room downstairs. If that time and location changes for some reason it will be in the bulletin or you will receive a notice in the mail/phone call or you’re student will be told in advance. We won’t meet on most holidays or holiday weekends so that they can be free for family time, which is just as important if not more important that youth group sometimes. Large group activities range from big and crazy games, service projects, speakers, worship, to topic based studies. Whatever we are doing in large group, it is sure to be loaded with fun! Core Groups—Something that we are starting new this year are Core Groups (that is the name we’re giving small groups). Core groups will meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month during the regular time slot, but have a different purpose than large group. These small groups of 5-8 will meet together all year lead by the same 2 adults and have an opportunity to share, discuss, pray, encourage, and grow spiritually together in this group. They will meet in the houses of the adult leaders. Free4All—and that’s what it is! Just a time to come relax, hang-out with each other playing games, foosball, video games, cards, and just be ourselves!
Events—We love to do crazy fun events from time to time. We may meet longer or meet somewhere else if the event we have planned requires it. Scavenger hunts, corn maze trips, hay rack rides, paint ball, food fights, movie nights, and concerts are just a few things that come to my mind that fall into the “event” category. There will also be overnighters, retreats, camping, and joint outings with other churches from the area. Our big event for last year was a trip to Colorado to white water raft, camp, and worship with almost 3,000 other H.S. students from across the US. Work projects are also offered. |
