What's Happening

A church is much more than Sunday morning. There are activities and ministries for all ages. Through them, we develop friendships and community. We sing and serve together. We learn and grow. Jump in!

  • Second Fridays at Second Organ Recitals continues throughout the spring. Dr. Davis Folkerts, our Organist Emeritus, offers monthly recitals, as well as helpful and interesting listening notes and background. Second Fridays at Second will be held on May 9, from 12:05-12:45 PM.
  • Grace Cafe, Friday, May 9, 7:30-9 PM. A coffee house (with tea and desserts, too) with folk and bluegrass music, along with other live entertainment. Gifts will be received to support the "Women Touched By Grace" endowment.
  • Pentecost, Sunday, May 11: we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the church. Our festive worship will include groundbreaking for Building Connections. Wear red clothing on this important day!
  • Second Church sportswear--make your fashion statement. Orders will be received through May 18 for polo shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, fleece vests and reusable grocery bags. Lots of colors, lots of sizes, lots of variety, all at amazing prices. Be sure to get your order in.
  • Iowa Cubs Picnic and Ballgame, Friday, May 30, 5:30 PM at Principal Park in Des Moines. A picnic in the stadium, followed by the game at 7 PM, and then post-game fireworks. Cost is $15 per person. Sign up in the church office by May 20.
  • Dad's Belgian Waffles, Saturday, May 31, 8-11 AM in Fellowship Hall. Support our senior high youth as they raise support for their summer trip to Colorado and Rocky Mountain High.
  • Summer Bash, August 15-17 at the Christian Conference Center, south of Newton. An intergenerational end-of-summer extravaganza of fun and fellowship. Part Sunday School picnic, part camping trip, part family reunion, part Elderhostel. Don't miss it.
